ADHD Family Connect
Service and Cohort Delivery: ADHD Family Connect is a 10-week online peer-to-peer program for parents and carers of young adults aged 15-25. Each cohort consists of up to 5 families, ensuring meaningful interactions and tailored interventions.
The program addresses the unique challenges of “Extended Adolescence” and ADHD, focusing on the specific needs of Gen Z individuals navigating modern societal influences, digital immersion, and identity exploration.
Importance: In Australia, about 7-8% of children have ADHD. As these children grow into young adults, they need special support to manage their symptoms for better school, work, and social outcomes.
Teens and young adults with ADHD often struggle more with school, making friends, and controlling their emotions, affecting their education, job prospects, and relationships.
Parents also face challenges in understanding their child’s needs, managing their expectations, and keeping a supportive home environment. This program helps address these issues.
Outcome: The ADHD Family Connect Program empowers parents and carers to better support their young adults with ADHD by helping them:
- Gain a clear understanding of their child’s development.
- Learn to set realistic expectations.
- Handle disappointments effectively.
- Develop a positive outlook on their child’s progress.
- Use compassion in their interactions with their child.
- Encourage and celebrate their child’s successes.
